The exhibition is a mix of form and material, featuring works that both contrast and compliment one another.

Joan Winter’s art is provocative in its simplicity. Her sculptures in cast resin and wood as well as her works on paper create abstract forms reminding the viewer of dancing figures. Winter’s undulating loops examine the relationship between the visible and invisible. The cleanliness and perfection of these objects traverse the line between abstraction and the timeless quality of nature demonstrating the influence of contemporary Japanese architecture seen in Winter’s art. The distinction between inner and outer space disappears emphasizing the interplay of light and shadow and mass and void.

In contrast to Joan Winter’s almost ethereal work, Rachel Perry Welty reuses ordinary disposable objects in provocative ways by taking them out of their familiar environment. The visually surprising results of her painstakingly crafted works direct the attention of the viewer to complex themes of identity, privacy, domesticity and language. The work features Welty using fruit stickers and archival tape in beautiful undulating forms leading the viewer to self reflection and the same time complementing and contrasting the materials and geometry of Joan Winter’s work.
